#onedayhh 2021
#onedayhh, or One Day Hour-by-Hour, is a social media challenge hosted by Laura Tremaine. This is its ninth year, and while the past couple years I've just watched, today I jotted down a few notes to document this day-in-the-life.
5:39A / Wake up. I don't set an alarm (this will be changing soon when we move, RIP) or have a digital clock in the bedroom, so I stumble out to the kichen when I wake up and it feels like morning. It was one of those mornings where it felt as though it very well could still be 3AM, but lo, the oven clock reads 5:39. I make a cup of Swiss Miss and settle on the couch to journal. Writing is my favorite way to start the day even though it doesn't always happen.
6:42A / Edward is at home today - he is taking college courses remotely and today is a school day. He asks if I would like to walk to the corner and see the sunrise. This sounds like an excellent plan, so I layer an extra sweater over my PJs and we walk the block and watch the sky.
7:38A / After getting dressed, packing lunch, and my 30 minute commute, I'm at work.
12:45P / I decide to take a few hours off this afternoon and head home. I can't decide exactly why this is, but after about an hour of trying this and that, I find myself...
3:30P / ...waking up from a solid and apparently much needed nap. I wander from the bed to the couch and open up the book I've been reading: Between You & Me: Confessions of a Comma Queen. It's part memoir, part copy editing guidebook, and it's been fun so far.
4:28P / My stomach has decided to hurt this afternoon for no good reason. It's not awful, it just needs to sort itself out, but it's interfered with my reading. I put the book down and take a pseudonap sitting on the couch.
5:17P / Edward is done with class for the day and comes into the living room to find me tapping on my phone in the dark. He turns on the light and has the excellent idea that I try a ginger ale for my stomach. It helps enough that I am hungry for dinner.
5:39P / We turn on Seinfeld and have cereal and leftovers for dinner like good young adults. By the clock it feels early, but by our eyes it feels late. We'll spend the rest of the evening watching TV, reading, and chatting until...
8:00P / ...E takes an early bedtime. I stay up a little later to write this post, but I'm about to head to bed as well. Good night!
