I thought I didn't read many books at once, but here I am. To be honest, I've finished Eligible, but the old fashioned Pride and Prejudice is now hanging out on my Kindle and I am hunting for a new YA novel to read.

1. I and Thou - Martin Buber

A philosophical perspective on relationships. There is the I-It, which applies not just to I-thing but also I-He and I-She, and there is the I-You. The introduction by Walter Kaufmann is nearly as long as the book itself but entirely worth it to get a sense of what Buber was attempting to convey in his volume. Incredibly deep and encouraging me to think differently about how and what relationships I pursue, even though it's not a self-help book by any measure. I haven't finished it but I am so intrigued.

"The basic word I-You can only be spoken with one's whole being. The basic word I-It can never be spoken with one's whole being."

"Whoever says You does not have something; he has nothing. But he stands in relation."

2. Multiply - Francis Chan and Mark Beuving

A study in Christian discipleship. Just beginning. So far so okay.

3. Girls With Swords - Lisa Bevere

A volume given by a lovely sister, full of encouragement and the Word. We have an enemy, but we also have a hero in us through Christ and are called to fight for righteousness and the glory of him who called us.

4. Eligible - Curtis Sittenfeld

A modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice in Cincinnati suburbs. Darcy is a neurosurgeon, Bingley is the fictional equivalent of a The Bachelor, Elizabeth writes for a fashion magazine and everyone is much too old for this. But it's a good read (if you're into that sort of thing).
