milestone(s)

t'was the eve before 21
and she felt like being nostalgic

things that happened in the 21st year:

1. engagement (to the handsome Mr. Azure, no less)
2. moved out of the parents house (okay, I did that 5 days before my 20th birthday, but most of the experience has happened this year. like buying the most uncomfortable but most beloved piece of furniture I own, a Balkarp futon)
3. told my God + me story to a room full of lovely strangers for the first time at Cru's mystery dinner

those are the highlights. the big things. the firsts. (and for 1 & 2, the lasts as well!) there were so many other things which I continued, like growing with Essential Church, running 5k's and steeplechases and miles and miles and miles, whilst attempting to become an engineer via UAH. there were roadtrips and plane trips and nights to just stay home.

it's been fun. it's been gross. it's been the longest year of my life, in a sometimes painful but the best way. it's true that everything goes faster the older you get, but that doesn't mean that less happens. it just means maybe you only stop to bemoan the slow parts - and don't stop nearly enough to just be grateful about what you got. so this a stop, for for a moment, to be grateful and joyful in what I have in God, my redeemer who builds beautiful things out of rubbish, who restores and renews, every single day.

xx

(p.s. i'm still a froshling (freshman, y'all). a young child called me and the fiance "grown-ups" the other day, and apparently I have to accept that or they won't serve me alcohol, but I hope I will never stop jumping into new situations and learning to swim. making it up as we go along - it's the only way to do it.)

(p.p.s. it's not really my thing but 4. my brother became a Naval Officer and graduated college and got married. we are totally grown-ups now)
