#decenthumanbeingbrigade

I am not trying to start a movement. Decent human beings understand the certain level of disingenuity that happens when you start a movement.

I'm not even trying to make much of a statement at all. Decent human beings don't make a show of themselves.

Decent human beings might trust too easily, but it's only because they'd like to think everyone else is also a decent human being.

Sometimes I'm a terrible human being. I don't care enough; I don't love enough, I use a first-person singular pronoun too often. But I'll do my best to care more, to love more, to be full of joy. And I'll be understanding if you are accidentally a terrible human being. That's what decent human beings do.

If you thank me for doing something I was going to do anyway, or something simple or basic or enjoyable because I love doing things for friends, and I love creating and giving... well, you're welcome, but it's just what a decent human being does.

When you are kind. When you have courage. When you speak up for someone who otherwise might not be heard. When you save a seat, lend a pen, love anyone in any way, or do someone else's dishes - it's no big deal. It's just another day in the decent human being brigade.

And remember that you are loved, by the one whose act, beyond decent, was to lay down his life for yours. You are loved even if you've been a terrible human being - because deep down you were made to be decent, and God knows that and is inviting you back in every moment of the day.

"Have courage, and be kind." - Cinderella's mother

"Therefore, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." - Colossians 3:12
